Goodnight Skin Fade

Skin fade at Fella Folkestone

Let's be honest the skin fade has had a very good run and as the saying goes all good things come to an end.

For years, it has been the go to haircut. Clean sides. Sharp finish. Fresh for the weekend. However as we all know tends change and if we look around now you just don't see as many skin fades. So is this the final goodbye to what has been a barber shop favourite for the masses across the country for well over 10 years.

Personally I've never been a huge fan. Don't get me wrong on the right person with the right head of hair a skin fade can look amazing however not everyone has that. For many years it seemed every haircut was a skin fade, and not every head of hair is better because the sides have been taken down to the skin.

Sometimes a softer shape works better. Sometimes keeping weight around the sides makes the haircut grow out better. Sometimes your hair, head shape, lifestyle or style suits something more natural, textured or lived-in.

A good haircut should not just look sharp on the day. It should work two weeks later. It should suit the way you dress, the way your hair grows, and how much effort you actually want to put into styling it.

That does not mean the skin fade is finished. It still works when it works. But it should be a choice, not the automatic answer.

At Fella, the consultation is where we work that out. Maybe it is a skin fade. Maybe it is a taper. Maybe it is a scissor cut. Maybe it is something softer, longer, looser or more natural.

The point is simple: the best haircut is not always the sharpest fade.

It is the one that suits you.
