The Benefits of Having Clean Hair Before a Haircut
Turning up with clean hair helps your barber see your natural hair shape, texture and growth pattern more clearly. It also makes the consultation better, the cut more precise and the finished style easier to judge.
When hair is heavy with old product, oil or sweat, it can sit differently from how it naturally wants to fall. That can make it harder for your barber to see weight, movement, cowlicks and problem areas. Clean hair gives a truer starting point, which helps your barber make better decisions on length, shape and finish.
Clean hair also makes styling at the end of the cut easier. Products work better when they are not fighting against old build-up, and your barber can show you how to recreate the look properly at home.
That does not mean your hair needs to be freshly washed five minutes before your appointment. Ideally, arrive with hair that is clean, dry or lightly styled, and not overloaded with product. A small amount of everyday product is fine, but heavy wax, clay, gel or oil can make the cut harder to read.
At Fella, the aim is always to give you a cut that works beyond the chair — so the cleaner the starting point, the better the finished result.
